The University of Calgary Jazz Orchestra and Chamber Jazz Ensemble had a successful first-time visit to the 2013 Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in Moscow Idaho this past week. This Festival, hosted by the University of Idaho has been around for more than 45 years and hosts many top jazz artists from around the world as performers and educators.A non-competitive festival, both groups were recognized on the February 21 evening Young Artist Concert by the adjudicators. The Jazz Orchestra also was asked to work with Dee Daniels in a special vocal workshop, also on February 21.As well, three soloists in the groups were chosen as outstanding soloists: Ellen Doty, voice, Tristan Campbell, bass trombone and Doug Zacharias, trumpet.
