Malcolm Edwards was born in Halifax, England and immigrated to Canada in 1967. He is a graduate of Sheffield College of Education (UK), Trinity College of Music, London, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Montana and has done further graduate work at the University of Northern Colorado. He taught music in junior and senior high school for twelve years in southern Alberta before moving to Calgary in 1980. He is a Professor of Music at the University of Calgary where he directs the University Chorus and is a former Head of the Department. He has held leadership positions within the Alberta Choral Federation, the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors and is active as a choral adjudicator and workshop leader in schools and churches. His choral compositions are published by Warner/Chappell, Hinshaw Music, Alliance Publications and Cypress Publications.
He has also worked in the local community with the Youth Singers of Calgary since 1989. This organization has over 450 singers in seven sequential age divisions. He is the director for Act Three – a mixed voice ensemble of some 45 singers who range in age from 18 to 25. The group is noted for its sophisticated choreography and a wide choral repertoire that spans popular and classic genres. In recent years the group has toured and presented concerts at venues in Scotland, France, Germany, Japan, Australia and China.
