Profile

Vladimir Levtov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Music, specializing in Piano Performance. A native of Russia, Vladimir Levtov was educated principally in Russia where he studied at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory under Theodor Gutman. He also studied with Maria Curcio-Diamond in London, England and Menahem Pressler and Martin Canin in the United States. In addition to teaching music fulltime at the University of Calgary, Dr. Levtov maintains an active performance schedule. He has performed throughout Europe, North America, Israel and the Far East. He has appeared as guest soloist with several major orchestras around the world including the London BBC Orchestra, London Mozart Players, the Lvov Philharmonic, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphony, the Jerusalem Symphony and Symphony Nova Scotia. Dr. Levtov is frequently broadcast on CBC Radio and is the winner of prestigious awards including the Queen Sofia International Piano Competition in Madrid, Spain, Kestenberg Competition in Tel-Aviv, Israel, the Maryland International Piano Competiton and Festival in the United States. He has also received several honourary awards including a British Council Award, an America-Israel Foundation Cultural Award twice and a National Society of Arts and Letters Award.
